Ethics, Data, Experiences - Bridging the gap between innovation and responsibility
04:15 pmData Responsibility, Privacy Enhancement and Responsible AIWe claim that there is a gap between technical curiosity and ethical boundaries. Technically and intellectually, using statistical models to infer human behaviour poses interesting challenges. They can provide insightful inferences, and the fast-paced development leads to rapid increase in use-cases.
Yet users do not like to be seen as mere objects of a study. The attempt to predict behaviour opens new questions: can they explain a human being as a whole? No. Is their application ethical? Not always, and we need to fix that.
We believe that holding up ethical standards expands the space of exciting challenges for the technically curious, rather than restrict them.
Finally, any ethical discourse that does not involve people developing and applying these technologies will fall short of closing the gap between technical curiosity and ethical boundaries.
In our talk we give an overview of common best practices, regulations, and outline a path to ethical tech. With practical examples we show that this path is filled with fun and great experiences that let the user decide how to use the technology.
